Cumberland Academy K-5 welcomed back a familiar face. One of our former 5th-grade students and now published author, Jackson Coker, returned for a special visit with our current 5th-grade classes. Jackson, 14, is the author of the debut children’s book, "Jackson's Time Tangled Adventure."
The students gathered to hear Jackson read engaging excerpts from his book and then hosted a lively Q&A session. Students greatly enjoyed the visit and asked many thoughtful questions about his writing process and what it’s like to be a published author.
Jackson shared with the students that the inspiration for his story came from attending summer camps at the historic Poe House and an 8th-grade English assignment. He went on to explain that he spent his summer taking photos at the historic location and working on the final manuscript, ultimately transforming a school assignment into a published book.
